WWE 2018 Fastlane Predictions

I definitely didn't realize Fastlane was coming up so quickly until they started talking about it being this Sunday on the John Cena segments at on Raw this week. I don't know why I thought there was a little more space between Elimination Chamber and Fastlane but I did. Probably because it seems like Smackdown forgot to really bother setting up any of these feuds outside of the ever growing Main Event. Anyway, let's make some predictions for the last PPV before Wrestlemania!

Becky Lynch & Naomi vs. Natalya & Carmella

I really have no clue which way they'll go here. I guess I'll predict Natalya and Carmella picking up the victory, perhaps through some nefarious means, just because Becky won over Carmella this week so we'll get a heel victory Sunday.

Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Rusev

I mean, there's no way Rusev wins, right? Nakamura has his Wrestlemania slot locked down so there's no real harm in him losing but the WWE seems to just be laughing at all of the Rusev Day chants while they let Rusev languish in the land of the jobbers so I'm going Nakamura to keep his momentum up going into Wrestlemania.

United States Championship: Bobby Roode vs. Randy Orton

Since we seem to be gearing up towards a triple threat match with Roode, Orton, and Jinder Mahal, I imagine we'll get some sort of interference from Mahal in this match. I think Bobby Roode retains the title because they'll go all out for his entrance at Wrestlemania but it'll probably be a DQ finish from Jinder interference. So I think I'm predicting an Orton win for the point (but Roode will most likely retain the title via DQ).

Smackdown Women's Championship: Charlotte Flair vs. Ruby Riott

I guess they've been setting this one up for a while with Charlotte running through the Riott Squad and Ruby running through Charlotte's allies but it still feels like the setup here has been a bit of an afterthought. I think we'll get a Flair victory, despite some meddling from the Riott Squad, because again, they'll want a nice flashy Charlotte Flair entrance for Wrestlemania.

Smackdown Tag Team Championship: The Usos vs. The New Day

The feud between these two teams led to some of my favorite matches last year so I think they're destined for a great bout at Wrestlemania (perhaps with the Bludgeon Brothers thrown in for good measure). I think I'm going to predict a New Day win here, with the Usos getting their rematch at the show of shows next month.

WWE Championship: AJ Styles vs. John Cena vs. Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn vs. Baron Corbin vs. Dolph Ziggler

I hate that, with the year the WWE has had, I feel like they could really have anyone win this one. As much as I would initially count out Corbin or Ziggler, they put the belt on Jinder for half the goddamn year so anything's possible. Owens and Zayn seem to be gearing up for a Wrestlemania match against each other as a feather in the cap of their long-running friendship/careers. So it ends up really coming down to Styles and Cena. I could easily see Vince not having enough faith in the drawing power of Styles vs. Nakamura (though in hindsight it seems like an infinite improvement on last year's Orton vs. Wyatt match). If that's the case (and if the rumored Cena/Undertaker match isn't feasible), they'd play it out just like Cena mentioned last week. He wins and Styles invokes his rematch to make Wrestlemania a triple threat. But I feel like they would put way more build into Cena "breaking Ric Flair's 16-time Champion" record and not give that to him on a C-level PPV like Fastlane. So I'm gonna land on Styles overcoming the odds and winning. Perhaps after a lights out/Taker gong combination distracts Cena, setting up their Mania match - which I really don't want to see.

So those are my predictions. Let me know yours in the comments or on Twitter.
