The last WWE Pay-Per-View of 2017 is right around the corner. Will I finally break Cameron's streak and correctly predict more outcomes than him or will he earn yet another free meal at Portillo's from me?
Pre-Show: Zack Ryder vs. Mojo Rawley
I have no real investment into the break-up of the Hype Bros. But with Rawley initiating the split, I imagine he's the one they'll give the storyline push to so I think he'll pick up the solo win here.
Prediction: Mojo Rawley
Breezango vs. The Bludgeon Brothers
Well the Bludgeon Brothers have been squashing jobbers for the past few weeks so I imagine we'll see that trend continue here. Breezango are over enough with the Fashion Files that the losses seem to run off them like water off a duck's back. Plus it's the first PPV for the re-christened Luke Harper and Erick Rowan so yeah, I think they'll sail to a fairly dominant win (but we'll get some comedy from Breezango).
Prediction: The Bludgeon Brothers
United States Championship: Baron Corbin vs. Bobby Roode vs. Dolph Ziggler
As much as I'd like to see a good title run from Ziggler here, I don't think the WWE really knows what to do with him. And I don't think they have all that much faith in Corbin continuing on with the belt (since they basically had him fighting Sin Cara over it for a month there). Roode was a solid heel NXT champ and has a classic feel that seems right up Vince's alley so I think he'll take the win here, probably over Ziggler so Corbin can continue the feud for a bit and argue that Roode didn't pin him for it and he should get a rematch at the Royal Rumble.
Prediction: Bobby Roode
Smackdown Women's Championship: Charlotte Flair vs. Natalya
I think this one will go to Charlotte, who will manage to fight off the Riott squad and retain her championship. But with all of the women acting as Lumberjills at ringside, could this be when WWE pulls the trigger on Carmella's cash-in? Let's go with yes, which can set up a rematch at Royal Rumble while (hopefully) the rest of the women's roster has a Royal Rumble of their own.
Prediction: Charlotte Flair retains against Natalya, but then loses to a Money in the Bank cash-in from Carmella.
Smackdown Tag Team Championship: The Usos vs. The New Day vs. Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin vs. Rusev and Aiden English
The New Day have been delivering some of the WWE's best matches all year. And I think that will continue here. With Rusev and Aiden English getting the upper hand in recent matches, it seems like we'll see them eat the pinfall here and I think we'll get The New Day back on top going into the new year, with new rivalry opportunities from all three competitors in this match and the Bludgeon Brothers.
Prediction: The New Day
Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens (w/ Special Guest Referees Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan)
Well Sami Zayn is being advertised in the new Facebook exclusive Mixed Match Challenge show debuting January 16th so it seems unlikely that Zayn and Owens will lose here and be fired. You also had Owens as the center of the WWE's recent 365 documentary so I don't imagine they'd dispatch with him either. So the real question here is how do they pull off the win. A Daniel Bryan heel turn to join his Canadian brethren in their "Yep" movement seems the most likely route and a heel Bryan in an authority role against the McMahon family seems like a nice full circle angle on his time in the WWE. So I think an accidental stray Kinshasa or RTO out of nowhere will incapacitate Shane but they'll also take out Zayn and Bryan will hesitate on the the 3-count. Then Owens/Zayn will hit a Helluva Kick/Pop-Up Powerbomb combo and Bryan will count the 1-2-3, sparing their jobs.
Prediction: Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens
WWE Championship: AJ Styles vs. Jinder Mahal
Jinder had his run. It didn't really seem to move the needle in India. Triple H even took the win over him on the recent tour. I think AJ is staying on top here. In fact, I imagine this won't even close the show. This match will hit earlier in the night and we'll get the Orton/Nakamura vs. Zayn/Owens match last.
Prediction: AJ Styles
So there we have it. My final WWE predictions of 2017. I look forward to being completely shutout for the year to my friend Cameron when he inevitably beats me on this, as always.
